A Crawdad and New Breathable Waders!

First of all, Cole caught a crawdad! Summer is officially here, and it has stopped raining long enough (5 dry days!) that the visibility improved, and hunting season is here. From now on, every morning will begin with, "Mom, can we go to the creek?" And that's all I'm going to here for the next 3 months.
So, our breathable waders are finally here! They turned out perfect!
Cole gave them a "dry" run, and I asked him if he liked them better than his neoprene ones. He said he liked them the same, so that's his professional opinion.
The kids breathable waders have the same boot as the neoprene waders - still neoprene lined for ultimate comfort and warmth, but lightweight and not so warm for summer wading. They are made of 90D 3-ply laminated nylon. This is a really soft and durable nylon, and super easy to put on.

The Perfect Waders for Kids!

We've really outdone ourselves this time. These waders are a slam dunk, and here are our testers taking them for a "dry" run. (Because while they all got wet, no one got WET.) So it was a fun day, and there wasn't any whining whatsoever. That was more miraculous than anything.

Climbing is so easy with neoprene - it's an extra barrier of protection.   He's almost 5 year old, and wearing the size 4/5.
Size 2T is a first.  My girl needed waders big time!  She is 2 yrs, 3 mo., and these are perfect with a little room to grow. For two days straight, she kept saying "I get my wader boots on."  She did great!  Of course, she never hesitated to take her pants off and get right in even before we finally got her size, either. Burrrrr.
We went 3.5 mm neoprene again - this is the best for kids.  Easier to move around in, still plenty durable and warm.
The wader belt is new, and comes with the waders.  This allows for a much snugger fit around the waist, and prevents water from getting in should they fall.  It goes through the front pouch, and buckles.  100% neoprene.
Here's another almost 5 year old (twin testers).

Ahhh, family togetherness enhanced by waders.  Good job, guys.
These waders are extremely easy to get on.  There's a little more room in the leg and since it's a full boot, the kids just drop right down into them - even the 2 year old.  It took about 20 seconds flat to get her suited up (with no help from her, naturally) and that includes buckling the straps.

Just Wading Around

Most of these are pictures from our customers, showing all the things kids can do with waders:

Setting the decoys. This is one of our all time favorite shots; taken by a Fish and Game Biologist, of his son, being able to go out for the first time. He said waders had helped their family build memories that will last forever. CUTE KID!
Fishing - well, that's a given. Sometimes the waders are even used for fishing.

Trying to catch anything they possibly can with a net - much more realistic.

Low tide treasures in the Pacific Northwest.
Crab hunting at low tide.

Finding all the puddles at home, and coming in dry after!
Spring newt collecting in the mucky muck breeding pond. Impossible without waders.
Dam building.

Wading and So Much More!

When it comes to kids, fishing is only one thing on a long list of activities waders come in handy for. Think of the possibilities! Kids love to get dirty - especially muddy. We know all that dirt is good for them, somehow, but it's not so good for moms and dads to clean up, and ruins clothes faster than anything. Waders accomplish a few things:

1. They're warm
2. They spray off (no laundering) and are naturally antimicrobial.
3. They're flexible and comfortable.
4. They're versatile. Kids don't have to take them off every time they change activities.
5. They're protective. Having a 3.5 mm neoprene coating on really guards against scrapes and scratches.
The neoprene stretches and grows with the child better than most clothing items. The boot is neoprene lined, and can be worn with or without socks. It also stretches some giving them maximum comfort as they reach the upper limit for a particular size.
Waders are an investment in a child's education. They allow them to explore comfortably, safely, cleanly and happily. When kids are outside, their minds develop in so many ways. Imaginative play, building, sounds of nature (even in your back yard!), encounters with wildlife, and so much more shape a child's mind. Outdoor experiences contribute to their sense of well being, heighten their senses, and make then healthier physically and emotionally. "Being in the wild somehow takes the wild out of them." Richard Louv (Last Child in the Woods)

Kids Who Live Outside

That's what this is all about. Kids like being outside. Parents just want their children to be safe and comfortable. Hopefully this blog will help.
